Interior renovation of a Carroll Gardens apartment. 1,000 square feet, kitchen, two bathrooms, floors throughout, and custom millwork across the full residence.

A 1,000 square foot apartment in Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn, renovated room by room without moving a single exterior wall. The brief was the ordinary one, a kitchen that worked, two bathrooms that did not leak, floors that ran continuously, and it was answered by treating the millwork as the architecture.

The living room is anchored by a new custom millwork wall, a floor-to-ceiling composition in white oak that integrates storage, display, and a concealed media unit without breaking its flat face. It is the one gesture in the room, and it is built to be read as a surface first and as furniture second.

The kitchen opens to the dining area through the deliberate removal of a partition wall, which is the single structural move in the project and the one that changes how the apartment is used. Cabinetry is painted MDF with integrated pulls, counters are stone, and the hardware is unlacquered brass that is meant to darken with the hands that use it. The two bathrooms were rebuilt in natural stone with custom vanities.

New flooring runs through every room, so the apartment reads as one plane rather than a sequence of finishes. Nothing here is decorative. The junctions are the detail.
